Sega said on Friday that Sonic the Hedgehog has died. Sega said, “He’s dead,” in the trailer for The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, a brand-new, official, and, most importantly, free murder mystery game that is now available on Steam.
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is an adventure/visual novel with a point-and-click style. The situation? The Mirage Express is the name of the train. What’s going on? Amy Rose’s birthday and a party where Sonic is the victim of a murder mystery.
As an original character, players must question suspects like Knuckles the Echidna, Rouge the Bat, Shadow the Hedgehog, Espio the Chameleon, and Sonic’s other supposed friends to find the anthropomorphic bad guy who did it.
The above trailer makes it look like there will also be isometric platforming minigames that players will enjoy. Sega says that The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is not canon.
This could give the company an excuse to say that Sonic the Hedgehog is still alive and will be in future video games, movies, animated shows, and fan fiction, without taking away from the character’s real death. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is available for both Mac and Windows PC.
